Americans do like football in fact I actually really enjoy it. I live in America and have all of my life, and we like soccer alot more than you would think we do. It’s just we aren’t that good at it. Lol!
So it’s not like we don’t like it or anything there is just aot of people who aren’t so crazy about it. Like I said I personally love it.
By the way, Canadians, Australians (soccer ranks fifth at best there), New Zealanders and South Africans (well behind rubgy union there) also you can add to your list as well as Venezuelans, Cubans, Nicaraguans, Taiwanese, Dominicans, Filipinos, Panamanians…there are actually nations where soccer is not #1. It’s not even #1 in Japan, dude despite the hype over their national team.
So get off your high horse and just accept the fact it will never be a popular sport in the U.S. unless serious changes to the offsides law and other ridiculous rules that restrict attacking play are dealt with.
Low scoring, hardly any actual shots on goal, diving are the esthetic reasons. But I hate to tell you this–many Americans do like football (or soccer) and more in sheer numbers play the game than in, say, England. It’s just it’s not taken seriously as a pro spectator sport because the best in the world play in Europe and it’s not good value for money when compared to seeing a baseball, basketball or NFL game…let alone an NHL game or Down Under footy or rugby. Sorry, but 0-0 and 1-0 just does not cut it as a spectacle for us.
What do you care anyway? I don’t care that England has not taken hockey (that’s ice hockey to you) to its heart like the Swedes, Finns, Czechs and Russians have. I could care less about my fave sport being popular in any nation. I want it to be exciting with loads of goals, shots, hit, saves…actual action! Popularity is the death knell of pretty much anything of quality.
Popularity does not equal quality–never has. To wit, the Spice Girls were once the most popular group in the world.
Also, really, if the NFL was played with no pads and equipment would it make it a better game? I doubt it. It was played like that at the start back in the 1910s or 20s with rudimentary equipment so I’ll take killer hits, long bomb TD passes and the fact the whole gear looks cool over watching effeminate metrosexuals in shorts who fall over and rool around on the ground the minute one of the other girls touches their hair.
Sorry, dude, just because soccer is “popular” does not mean I have to like it in 2006. I loved it when it was played with flair and skill back in, say, the late ’70s and early ’80s like when Haan or Rep or Bonhof or Rivelino were bombing goals in from long range and we had real men playing the game. Now it is total snoozeville as a sport. The sport where scoring goes to die.
By the way what the what is a puff? Of smoke? Of HR Puftnstuf fame? I think “poofs” might be what you want to say if you’re one of these metrosexual Land of Eng types…but again meaningless term in American English so you may as well call them “toaster ovens” (has about as much meaning [i.e., none]) as an insult as “poof” is too Britglish for this side of the “pond.”
Anyway, whoop de doo, soccer is #1 in the world. You can have it. Wake me when you guys decide to open the game back up and we can see a World Cup like the 1970 one where teams actually scored goals and didn’t sit back for the PK lottery.
Same reason we don’t like Cricket. We find it boring.
Of course, that’s saying a lot in comparison to our own football and baseball, which from what I understand not many countries enjoy from us either.
Americas sports are baseball and American Football.. dey were brought up dat way and are made to love dat sport y is dat a problem for other countries.. i do agree dat football should be played wif feet. im English and can understand dat certain sports are loved by every country and just because Football is liked by many doesnt mean dat America has to follow. the fact dat dey arent gud at football is tru but dey probaly think da same wen we play dey loved sports.
Something to do with arrogant patriotism. That sort of world view has, like most things, has a down as well as an up side. It brings out the Neanderthal in them and ‘football’ is, well, too dainty. You think?
cose they don’t understand the beauty of the gae and the difficulty to move forwards to the opponent’s goals; it needs strategy and tactics, and it’s like a battle between two armies; only the most intelligent and skillful will win.
Because they are no good at it.
I think it is because it is too physical & is a contact sport.
They prefer sports where the body is almost completely covered in padding.
I was genuinely going to give an intelligent reply to your question….Lots of good reasons to give you.
But then I read your added details………Is it impossible for you people to learn something without criticism.
Unbelievable……..Grow the **** up!
that’s a bit stereotypical.. some Americans are just as nuts about soccer as other countries are. It’s just that baseball and American football are the main “manly” sports. Some losers in this country make fun of people for people that like and play soccer, calling them ‘lawn fairies’. geez.

They probably feel that they have something better to do then watching 22 players chasing after 1 ball……….
i know what u mean, but they’re too pre-occupied with THEIR sports I.e. basketball, baseball and american football
