my granddaughter is 2 and a half. she constantly chews on things. mostly her wood crib and even the coffee table. her books. how can we stop her we have tried everything we can think of. why does a child do this?

It’s about a condition called “Pica”, where children (and even some adults) feel compelled to chew or eat non-edible items.
Why? One reason would be teething. Another might be something called “pica”. I would have her pediatrician take a look in her mouth for any sores. That would be the first thing to do.
I don’t know, but my son does the same thing. What I did was buy thenail biter from Walmart. You can get it in the beauty section. I put it on the wood(it is clear). It has a really nasty taste so when he tried to chew on it he tasted that. It has worked so far.
i had a friend whose sister had sickle cell anemia and she used to chew the carpet..for whatever reason. Not trying to say that is what your granddaughter has. Maybe its like that thing u get when ur pregnant I believe its called PICA where your body craves non-edible things, such as dirt. Maybe she is getting some back teeth in and it helps the pain. There are so many possibilities…
