I am around 6 weeks pregnant and my sister told me I should start looking at daycares and trying to get on waiting lists. When did you start doing this during your pregnancy if you decided to use child care? I live in Raleigh, NC, does anyone have an idea about the average cost per month of child care?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I’m not sure about Raleigh, NC, but when I started looking here in Richmond, VA, it was too late, as I was 2 months away from my delivery date and most of the day care places had 6-8 month waiting lists!!! I’ve managed to still makes things work with care for my baby, but if you want to use daycare and you want a good one, you better get on a waiting list ASAP!
It depends on when you plan on going back to work…. There are wating lists most of the time though.
But I am from Raleigh!!! The YMCA off of New Falls of the Neuse (beside the Wakefield schools) is GREAT! Best Y I have ever seen. They take all ages, have a wonderful staff, there is a waiting list to be a summer counseler, and my sister sends all three of her kids there. There is also a daycare across from Prescott (my old neighborhood) that seems smaller and nice.
Best of luck! I wish I still lived there!
I didn’t use daycare. I got out of the service (Air Force…my enlistment time was up anyway and my hubby was higher rank than me by 1 stripe) and stayed home. Now, almost 10 yrs later, I’m a sahm to 2 boys.
I would definately start looking right away. Here in Madison there’s usually up to a year or two waiting list and the cost for infant is anywhere between 250-300. Good luck and congrats!
I would go ahead and start looking, it couldnt hurt. Im in Georgia and the average cost for infants is about 150 a week
