About Heart Rate Training Turns out, your heartbeat is a pretty big deal. It’s actually one of the most important indicators of overall wellness, and is one of the most effective elements of any fitness program. Your heart rate not only controls your body but also the efficiency of your exercise. To get the most out of your physical activity–whether it’s walking, dancing or aerobics–you need to make sure you are in your target heart rate zone. To determine your target heart rate, first subtract your age from 220. That’s your maximum heart rate. Your target heart rate is roughly 50 to 75 percent of this maximum heart rate. To see how your fitness level is progressing over time, measure and track your resting heart rate–usually between 60 and 100 beats per minute–on a weekly basis. As you become more fit, your resting heart rate will decrease.
Your target heart rate generally encompasses three zones. Exercising in the Active Zone (50 to 60 percent of maximum heart rate) reduces blood pressure and cholesterol and is ideal for fitness beginners or those on a low-intensity program. Almost all calories burned in this zone are fat calories. Reaching the Training Zone (60 to 70 percent of maximum heart rate) requires more intense aerobic activity and is perfect for fitness enthusiasts working to burn maximum calories and fat. Finally, exercising in the Endurance Zone (70 to 80 percent of maximum heart rate) is generally recommended for athlete in training. The primary benefits of this zone are cardiovascular strengthening and elevated caloric burn.

Product Description ePulse is the world’s first armband-only continuous heart rate monitor and calorimeter. Until now continuous heart rate monitors required an uncomfortable chest strap and special watch, essentially restricting their use to serious athletes. ePulse, the “People’s Personal Fitness Assistant” now makes it practical and convenient for anyone who exercises or is interested in tracking calories burned to obtain the benefits of heart rate monitoring while conducting literally any type of activity from running to walking or simply doing daily chores. The ePulse brings the benefits of continuous heart rate monitoring to everyone with its ease of use and convenience. This is accomplished via sophisticated integration of light sensor and microprocessor technology (like that used in hospital heart rate monitors) that allows the ePulse to accurately read the pulse from the forearm. The ePulse is lightweight and features an easily read day/night LED display. It is powered by standard AAA batteries. ePulse requires no programming to immediately display heart rate, and with a simple input of personal data, it will also calculate calories burned and target exercise zones including in-zone alerts. ePulse works equally well for both men and women. This innovative product addresses the prevailing issue other heart rate monitors struggle to overcome.the wearing of a chest strap! At best, chest straps are an annoyance and at worst, are so uncomfortable that they discourage many people from utilizing this type of valuable training and fitness tool. In particular, women seem very sensitive to chest straps and many won’t use heart rate monitors due to this physical requirement. Now, ePulse comfortably conveys heart rate (and other important data) allowing anyone to easily regulate their workout intensity and better attain specific fitness or weight management goals with the touch of a finger.Amazon.com Product Description Dynamic heart rate monitors have traditionally required an uncomfortable chest strap and compatible watch, practically restricting their use to serious athletes. Enter the ePulse, the world’s first armband heart rate monitor and calorimeter. Known as the “people’s fitness monitor,” the ePulse makes it practical and convenient for anyone who is interested in tracking calories burned to enjoy the benefits of heart rate monitoring while performing literally any type of activity, from running to walking to simply doing daily chores.
The ePulse works by integrating light sensor and microchip technology–the same type used in hospital heart rate monitors–to accurately read the pulse from the forearm. Once on your arm, the ePulse continuously acquires and shows your current exercise heart rate while calculating calories burned based on your heart rate and personal profile. If you use the ePulse several times a day, it automatically compiles your calories burned into a grand daily total, including when your activities consist of moving around the office or doing work around the house. The ePulse also measures your basic metabolic rate (BMR), which is a prediction of how many calories you will burn based on your personal data input, and then adds your daily calories burned to show your total caloric burn for a day. This function is particularly useful for people who are trying to count calories and lose weight through a program of diet and exercise.
In addition, the ePulse handles a number of basic calculations, including elapsed exercise time, average heart rate, and minimum and maximum heart rates. People with specific training goals can further use the ePulse to calculate optimal heart rate exercise zones for both burning fat and boosting cardio conditioning. The ePulse will then provide a target high and low range for your heart rate, with a green LED light telling you when you’re in the target zone.
The real advantage of the ePulse, however, is its chest-strap-free design. At best, chest straps are an annoyance, and at worst are so uncomfortable that they alienate many people from using this type of valuable training and fitness tool. Women in particular report sensitivity to chest straps, and many won’t use heart rate monitors as a result. The ePulse, by contrast, is comfortable for both men and women, allowing users to easily regulate their workout intensity and better attain specific fitness or weight management goals. The ePulse–which incorporates an easy-to-ready day/night LED display and is powered by AAA batteries–requires no programming to immediately display heart rate data.
The ePulse excels during the following activities: general fitness, aerobics, running, tennis, racquetball, golf, resistance training, weight loss monitoring, weightlifting, and daily chores.

About Mio The story of Mio began in 1999 when it was created by entrepreneur and mother of three, Liz Dickinson. Like many of us, Liz balances family and career, leaving little time for fitness. After several unsuccessful attempts to achieve her fitness goals and shed the pregnancy weight-gain of her third child, Liz turned to a personal trainer for advice. While working with a trainer, Liz realized the key to getting in shape and staying in shape is to practice smart eating habits, monitoring calorie intake, and using a heart rate monitor to ensure that she exercises at the right level. Liz realized there wasn’t a product available on the market that would easily help her follow her trainer’s advice.
Liz didn’t have time to read labels and carry a calorie journal in her purse, nor did she have much patience for the uncomfortable chest strap she had to wear to get her heart rate. She knew there had to be a better way, so Liz used her technology and marketing savvy to create Mio, the world’s first heart rate monitor to work without a chest strap. And, it didn’t stop with just heart rate, as Mio also has a patented calorie management system that offers a straightforward approach to managing your diet. With the help of Mio and a balanced diet, Liz was able to shed those unwanted pounds and gain the benefits that come with improved fitness: more energy, more vitality, and less stress, and help many others do the same with the creation of Mio’s products.
